Shrek 2

movieposter
Went to see Shrek 2 last night. I'm not usually one for animations, but I really liked the first when I caught that one video. Glad I went, it was great. I was especially impressed with Jennifer Saunders. Didn't know she could sing!
The film picks up right where the first movie ended. Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon to find a letter from Fiona's parents inviting the newlyweds over for dinner. The only problem is that they have no idea that their daughter is now an ogre.
Don't forget to visit the official site for a very elaborate adventure of your own. Impressive.

DVD

My DVD writer died on me a while ago. Can't possibly live without anymore, so I found a replacement in the LG GSA-4082B Super Multi DVD Rewriter. Timing couldn't have been better, because my harddrive was getting rather full.

Mondays

I hate mondays. It's always a shock where the alarm goes off and I'm yanked out of my peaceful sleep. This morning was especially nasty, because when I finally was ready to leave, I found my bike had a flat tire. I hate it when that happens. Walked to the bicycle shop, but they don't open untill 10. Left my bike there and caught a bus to work. I'll go back this afternoon, hope they can take care of it before they close today. Sigh.

Holiday

Received news from those on holiday. An e-mail from my brother and his gf, from Thailand (fact file). Bangkok to be exact. All's well, but quite hot apparently. My parents are currently in Normandy. My mom phoned to ask if I'd heard anything from the far east. I think she's a bit worried. She's having visions of Bangkok Hilton. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Perfect circles

I got sick of waiting for the NPS to air new episodes of Six Feet Under. They finished season 2 a while ago, but for some reason still haven't started on season 3. So I finally got my hands on those episodes though a different way. I'm looking forward to getting started on the first few this weekend.

Therion

Just got tickets to see Therion play 013 in November. Should be good.

Stuff

Just read the news that PHP 5 has been released. Groovy! Can't wait give it a whirl.

Today is also Quatorze juillet ofcourse. And it's raining. Again. Sigh.

Rembrandt

self-portrait
Today is birthday of painter Rembrandt van Rijn, which is celebrated all over town. There's even a reenactment of the Nachtwacht by a bunch of volunteers.

Stopped by the bookstore on my way home just now. Wanted to get a copy of Shôgun by James Clavell. I seldom leave with just one purchase; I also bought Centennial by James A. Michener and Stonehenge by Bernard Cornwell. Everyone has a weakness.

Eventful

Before I say anything else, I want to say 'very happy birthday' to my mum.

I had quite an eventful saturday. First I went into town with a list of things I needed. Somehow I managed to come home with a bunch of stuff (like Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle), but nothing from the list. Hm.

In the meantime the temperature had risen to 30°C. Then clouds gathered and it started to storm. The rain caused a rather impressive inhouse waterfall on my staircase, meaning I'll have to call the roofguy to get that fixed sometime soon. But those buckets shure look lovely.

To cheer myself up I ordered some ribs and watched Return of the King. Then my neighbour dropped by to inform me he had been burgled. On broad daylight. What is the world coming to?

Gathering

So, everybody appears to be back from abroad and we're having dinner tonight to catch up. Should be nice. Meanwhile, I'm already fed up with our current summer. If you can call it that. It's to warm and there's no sun. It's giving me a headache. Forgive me for discussing such trivialities.

Change

If you've been here before, you might notice I've changed a few things. Added a bit of colour with a brandnew masthead and I've also changed the a few things about the inidividual post pages of the weblog. I'm quite pleased with the result, though I might change it again when I've got a new idea.

Lewis

Read an interview with Bernard Lewis earlier. Made some good points. A quick Google made me stumble upon an article by his hand, entitled The Roots of Muslim Rage. Quite an interesting read.

Cinema

Watched 'The making of King Arthur' last night. Looks quite good, though I have my doubts about the many things they left out of the legend. Wonder if the remains will be enough.

I've read a number of Asimov books, so I'm also quite curious about I, Robot. And I still want to go and see Fahrenheit 9/11. So atleast one trip to the cinema is required.
