Last een tijdje terug de post Browsers van Jeremy Keith. Microsoft’s Edge browser is going to switch its rendering engine over to Chromium. [..] There’s one shining exception though. Firefox. That browser was originally created to combat the seemingly unstoppable monopolistic power of Internet Explorer. Now that Microsoft are no longer in the rendering engine game, Firefox is once again the only thing standing in the way of a complete monopoly.

Ik ben fan van Firefox, al jaren, en nu des te meer. Ze zijn de laatste tijd ook goed bezig que performance en nieuwe features. Neem bijvoorbeeld de Facebook Container, deze is echt geweldig! Deze extensie isoleert uw identiteit in een apart containertabblad, waardoor het moeilijker is voor Facebook om u op het web te volgen. Trouwens onlangs bijna mijn Facebook verwijderd, maar toen ik na ongeveer een jaar weer eens inlogde (in de container uiteraard), zag ik wat uitnodigingen en kon ik het toch niet over mijn hart krijgen.. Binnenkort doe ik het echt! Maar goed, installeer -en gebruik- Firefox, dat wilde ik alleen maar even zeggen.

Zo is de release van Firefox versie 4 een highlight in je bestaan als ontwikkelaar (kan ik eindelijk nog meer CSS3 gebruiken!), zo ben je alweer bezig met de installatie van versie 5. Het moet toch niet gekker worden!

Finally released: the new Firefox. Though I'm not too impressed with the changes to the skin, I have noticed a big improvement in performance. Try this Field guide for a list of features or my Delicious for some more info.

Microsoft has announced plans to roll out the final standalone version of IE7 via its Automatic Update service. You can read about this on many places, including The Web Standards Project. I do think this is a good thing as it -hopefully- will force a large majority to upgrade. Though I'm not sure the people still using the horrid IE5 all use Automatic Update, so it'll probably result in a large portion of IE6 users upgrading (and quite possibly being confused by the new 'features') and a remaining group of lagards still using older versions. So the problems with development still remain. Sigh.

Not much going on at the moment. I finally got the screens installed on my new rooflight, which should make sleeping in a lot easier. What else? Firefox 2.0 Beta Candidate 1 has been released. Haven't tried it yet, but I might this weekend. We're preparing to move offices here next week, so it's a bit chaotic at the moment. Timing couldn't have been better though, since the second heatwave of the year should be a highpoint around that time. Sigh.
