Lang gehypet, maar nu dan eindelijk te zien, de Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon is vorige week begonnen. Over het algemeen zie ik goeie reviews, zie Metacritic. Ik moet wel even wennen, bij Game of Thrones had ik de boeken al gelezen, dus wist je ongeveer wat ging komen. Het boek Fire & Blood heb ik niet gelezen. Bij GoT waren ook veel meer verschillende families en verhaallijnen uitgewerkt, wat hier niet het geval is, de focus ligt primair op de Targaryens. We gaan zien hoe het zich ontwikkeld, ik ben iig voldoende geboeid om nog even door te kijken.

Het heeft even geduurd, maar het 5e deel van A Song Of Ice And Fire is eindelijk verschenen. Zes jaar na het vorige deel is hier dan nu A Dance With Dragons van George RR Martin. Sta enigszins in tweestrijd, ben eerlijk gezegd het merendeel van de eerdere boeken behoorlijk vergeten, zal ik desondanks toch doorlezen of zal ik eerst de eerdere delen herlezen? Of (driestrijd!) kan ik beter wachten tot ze alle acht verschenen zijn? Wat een dilemma!

Onlangs The Land of Painted Caves (Earth's Children #6) bemachtigd. Ben ergens rond bladzijde 200 van het 6e en langverwachte (deel 1 is alweer uit 1980!) laatste deel, maar ik ben nog niet echt gegrepen, vrees ik. Het kabbelt allemaal een beetje aan en ik heb nog niet echt een plot kunnen ontdekken. Was er geen goeie editor beschikbaar om mevrouw Auel een beetje op het rechte pad te houden?

Toch wel wat positief boeken nieuws, want er is eindelijk een datum bekend voor het 5e deel van A Song of Ice and Fire! 'Dance With Dragons' is aangekondigd voor 12 juli. Goeie timing, want de uitzending van de verfilming van het eerste boek 'Game of Thrones' begint zondag a.s. op HBO.

Finished George RR Martin's A Feast for Crows on the weekend, now I guess I'll just have to wait for the release of the next part A Dance with Dragons, which is due out later this year.

I'm now reading something completely different, Knielen Op Een Bed Violen by Jan Siebelink. My mother lend it to me and has been urging me to read for quite some time now. Strange to read Dutch again after the many pages of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which I've read in English.

I also bought Voice of the Gods, which is Book 3 of the Age of the Five Trilogy, by Trudi Canavan. Read the first two parts last year, hope I can get back into it. That's generally the reason I prefer not to read series, but for some reason I've been doing just that for ages now. Hm.

Just got tickets for the My Dying Bride show in Paradiso on April 20th. The tour is for their recently released ninth album, A Line of Deathless Kings. I've seen them twice before, at the Graspop festival in 2000 and opening for Iron Maiden in 1995. So this will be the first time they'll actually be headlining. And in Paradiso. What a treat!

No much else going on today. Enjoying reading the A Song of Ice & Fire series. I'm trying to stop myself from finishing part 3, A Storm of Swords. After that, only part 4, A Feast for Crows, remains. Apparently the series is to end with 7 books, but the last three are unfortunately yet to be released.

Not quite sure why I'm this excited already, because it'll take ages to complete, but it's good news nonetheless:

Variety reported [..] that the rights for A Song of Ice and Fire have been sold to HBO with the intent of turning the novels into a television series. Written and executive produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the series is expected to cover one novel's worth of material per season. Martin plans to co-executive produce the series and is expected to write one episode per season. The series will be filmed in Europe or New Zealand.

As Mr. Martin states on his own website:

With twelve hours to devote to each of the novels, rather than the two to three that a feature film would allow, we should be able to present a faithful dramatization of the story that will please both my own readers, and HBO subscribers who have never read a fantasy novel in their lives.

Can't wait! Now, where can I speculate on casting?

Had the afternoon off. Spend some time browsing the library. I'd even made a list, since I'm usually wandering around the place for to long. I was hoping to get Rosalind Miles' Tristan and Isolde trilogy, but the first part wasn't available. The same goes for J. V. Jones' Sword of Shadows series and the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. Well, just not my lucky day for series apparently. Maybe next time.

I finally gathered a few books and narrowed it down to the following two: Pillar of the Sky (A Novel of Stonehenge) by Cecelia Holland and The Horses at the Gate by Mary L. Mackey.

I was also hoping to get my hands on the new Julliet Marillier (The Dark Mirror: Book One of the Bridei Chronicles), but that wasn't available yet. I read her Sevenwaters Trilogy around this time last year and am curious about her new work. Might see if I can find it at the bookstore tomorrow.
