Genealogy

My brother mailed me a link to an article about a schoolteacher in Andijk. On the page you can see a picture of her class (probably late 1920s). On the bottom right a girl is named Marijt Visser. We're pretty sure that's our paternal grandmother. Cool huh?

Fusebox 4

Jakob has an item on plain-text ads. Good timing, as I was just thinking of joining textads.biz. But I'm not sure I want any kind of ads on my site.

There's more and more talk on Fusebox 4, which is due for release. It's supposed to offer some nice features, like more use of XML and CFC's to give more OO posibilities. Should be nice.

Ancestor

I finally got round to posting the story of my ancestor Cornelis Valentijn on my site. I'm afraid it's in Dutch, so my apologies if you can't read it. Tomorrow is Koninginnedag (the day we celebrate the Queen's birthday), so no work for me. Hope the sun shows itself, so I can retreat to the garden. And I still want to dive into the PostgreSQL Documentation, to see the differences between that and MySQL.

CSS

Found a Wiki on CSS. Good resource for those CSS-addicts, like me.

Health

There are special Health Tips for coders. Never knew. Think I'll take the ye olde bike to work tomorrow. That should be enough. Well, as long as I don't get SARS.

Camera

I bought the camera yesterday evening. It's the 750 LCD Powerc@m Zoom by Trust. I'm pleased. Now I only have to finish my gallery script, so I can post some stuff. Hope I won't run out of discspace too soon.

Oh, and how could I not mention that the first version of the Mosaic browser was released 10 years ago yesterday.

Photo

My brother recently bought this digital camera. I'm jealous. I think I'm going to buy one myself soon. In fact, I've even begun looking for easy photoblog type scripts and think I've found a rather nice one I can adapt to my needs. So soon this site will contains some pics also. Hopefully. But I don't have a cute puppy though.

Good Friday

Yahoo has an article on a guy on Wall Street claiming to be from the future. Weird. Anyhow, it's Good Friday today. And most people seem to have taken today of, to enjoy the long Easter Weekend. I'm still at work though. Nice and quiet.

XHTML2

All That We Can Leave Behind is an article on the O'Reilly website. It describes some of the changes we can expect from the XHTML2 standard. Quite strange.

Perfume

They should give the death penalty to people who wear a heavy perfume when it's this warm. Especially on public transport. I really prefer winter. And it's only April. Sigh.

Katatonia

Still don't have the new Opeth. Hopefully tomorrow. But the new Katatonia hasn't left my CD player since I got it last week. So maybe that's a good thing. Otherwise I'd have to choose. And who wants to do that?

Opeth

Just found out the new Opeth, Damnation, has been released earlier this week. I thought it was delayed untill May. I have to get my hands on a copy as soon as possible!

Bear

Just finished Children of Dune. I think I'll have a bit of a Dune break. Borrowed Greg Bear's Blood Music, which I'll read now. But I think I'll continue with God Emperor of Dune after I finish that. I've heard it could be 23°C tomorrow. It's not even May! I thought we were supposed to have four seasons here. Sigh.

Game

The game Anno 1503 is great. Shame I've only got the demo.

Music

My delivery arrived today. And I bought Agalloch's The Mantle when I went into town with my brother yesterday evening. Who says people don't buy CD's anymore.

Dune

Almost finished with Children of Dune, the third book from the Dune series. The first book in still my favourite, but this is way better than the second one. Can't wait to watch the new series. Shame we don't have the SciFi Channel. Wish I could join the Bene Gesserit. They rule. This is their Littainy against Fear.

I must not fear.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.

Bookmarks

I recently switched completely to Phoenix for all my surfing. I only use IE for development testing. Yeah for me! However I have run into some problems concerning the ye olde bookmarks. I want to transport them easily between all my test browsers and ofcourse between home and work. Luckily, I just ran into XBEL, hopefully that can help.

Cake!

PHPVolcano is all about PHP5 and how it will handle OOP. I'm crazy for Cake at the moment. The band that is. Trying to compile a best of CD, but it's really hard. Had to go to hospital earlier. I'm fine. Almost back to normal. Well, not quite, but getting there. I'm pleased. Really pleased.

Date

Just realised today's date is 05-04-03. Cool.

Note to self

Good that I found this article, called Making An RSS Feed. Because I used to have one, but it got lost with one of my redesigns. Time to dust of the script and throw it back online. And this is one scary monster.

Rain

Did I mention I finished the Greg Bear I was reading? Back to Dune again. Shame the weather turned, I enjoyed reading in the garden, sitting in the sunshine. There's only wind and rain now. I ordered some extra memory for my camera yesterday. I'm also thinking of getting a card reading device thingy. They're on offer at Aldi. Oh, and I played Colonization. From 1994, but still one of my favourite games.
