Lots to do in town this weekend. Though today is actually Koninginnedag, the festivities took place yesterday due to religious reason. Went to the bi-annual fabric market to stock up on some pieces of cloth, which my mom will be kind enough to turn into clothes for me. And I bought a copy of Transport Giant, the cover of which looked quite promising.
Got it! Picked up the new Tool album 10.000 Days at Velvet just now. Got a not so legal version earlier this week, but that’s just not the same. After waiting five years for this, I want the complete package, including the groovy artwork. At the moment the title track is my favourite track. The album is called thus because:
As Keenan explains [..], his mother suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. The length of time between her paralysis and her death was 27 years, or approximately 10,000 days.
Watched a documentary yesterday, on the Apocalypse on National Geographic Channel in their Secret Bible Week. Though the documentary itself was a bit of a disappointment, it got me thinking, what if Nero had been more thorough surpressing early Christianity? Wouldn’t that make for an interesting alternate history novel?
A copy of DOM Scripting: The book found it’s way to my desk. Excellent timing, since I was just finishing off a few things. I was also browsing Wrox’s Professional PHP5 earlier this week. I’d like to get a copy of that also, either myself or maybe through the office. Need to keep up my PHP skills, as I’ve been doing ColdFusion almost exclusively for a quite some time now.
Went shopping in Haarlem yesterday, bought some nice things. Should have spared my feet though, because I had tickets for Riverside in Zoetermeer that very evening. But, despite the discomfort of sore feet, I must say it was a great show.
Riverside is a progressive metal band from Warsaw, Poland. They played songs from both their 2003 debut Out of Myself and 2005’s release Second Life Syndrome. I remember reading somewhere these 2 albums are to be part of a trilogy, so I’m looking foward to the release of their third album.
I also bought a t-shirt with the Out of Myself cover on the front. Speaking of t-shirts, in front of us were 2 boys in hugely oversized Ghost Reveries t-shirts, who probably were newborns when Orchid came out. That makes me feel old.
I’m a lady of leisure this week. Finally had the time to do all the things I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. For instance, I just got back from Katwijk to visit a store called Leatherman’s Factory, which -as you might have guessed- sells leather jackets. I’ve been searching for the perfect black leather jacket for years now. I’ve had one I bought second hand at the Waterlooplein market in Amsterdam years ago, but that wasn’t a great fit plus it didn’t look all that great anymore. So we got to the store, I described my quest and the first jacket handed to me (Italian calfskin, with a deep red lining) was perfect! 😀
Just got back from the library. Spend more time that I’d planned picking out something interesting to read next. I’m a bit disappointed with the current offerings, especially in the SciFi section. I’d seen all kinds of interesting books at the store, which I would like to read but was unable to find at the library. I finally decided upon White As Snow by Tanith Lee and House Atreides, because I’d never gotten round to reading the Dune prequels. That should keep me going during the upcoming Easter weekend.
I was doing fine for the biggest part of the day, but just as I was about to leave the office it began to rain. Needed some groceries, but upon arriving at the store I noticed they’d moved lots of stuff around. Why do they always feel a need to do that? Just to f*ck with my head? Ofcourse I couldn’t find a bunch of things that were on my shopping list. And don’t get me started on the whole Easter doctrine that began a few weeks ago, with huge displays of chocolate eggs and strange items suddenly on offer. Disturbing.
When I finally got home, the bill for my recent dental work had arrived, it’s a whopping € 670. This is not a good day. Oh, ignore me. Things are good. The shopping’s in, I’ll probably be able to claim a large chunck of the dentist bill on my insurance. Time to prepare the nice juicy steak I just bought and relax in front of the tv. 🙂
Though not as quick as winner Sammy Korir, my brother Tjerk finished the Rotterdam Marathon earlier today. You can see a picture of him on the right, just as he was passing the 250 meter sign, where we had been waiting. Needless to say we’re all very proud of his achievement!
Update: check out his pics on Flickr.com.
Took the afternoon off, to do some shopping. Bought a pair of Serenity from the Wolky shop, in black ofcourse. Looking at the pricetag, I don’t think you can call these flip flops anymore, migh call them the upgrade. Ah well, they’re supposed to last forever and I like wearing them in summer so it’s a worthy investment.
Going to see Ernesto en Marcellino in theater tonight. It’s meant to be quite absurd. Not sure what to expect, we’ll see.
