It’s Samhain today. And the onset of wintertime. Confusing as always. Spend yesterday painting my frontdoor. Finally a day of sun instead of rain. I’m quite pleased with the result.

Hicksdesign has redesigned. I really love the idea with the 2 background images. Never would have thought of that. I wish I had inspiration, I feel it’s time for a redesign.

One thing always leads to another when you visit the Wikipedia. Landed on the The Aquatic Ape Theory after looking up something quite different. Can’t remember what though. But it’s an interesting place to end up nonetheless.

Read Without a Doubt (full text), an article in the NY Times on the rise of Bush. Here’s a quote I wanted to share. It shows exactly why I fear the outcome of next weeks elections.

‘You think he’s an idiot, don’t you?” I said, no, I didn’t. ”No, you do, all of you do, up and down the West Coast, the East Coast, a few blocks in southern Manhattan called Wall Street. Let me clue you in. We don’t care. You see, you’re outnumbered 2 to 1 by folks in the big, wide middle of America, busy working people. [..] And you know what they like? They like the way he walks and the way he points, the way he exudes confidence. They have faith in him.

Tables and stats

Tables are not alway evil, if used correctly. Here’s how. And I’m pleased to read about the expected new release of ShortStat. Hope it’s a bit more resource-friendly than the previous one I tried.

The Slayer/Slipknot Unholy Alliance tour was in the country last week. But I’m afraid €50 was just too much, even for Slayer. Luckily most of the reviews confirm they outplayed Slipknot. Can’t believe someone thought this combo was worthy.

I’m looking forward to visiting a concert though. It’s been too long. Luckily I’ve got 2 (two!) coming up next week. First there’s Therion, Trail Of Tears and Tristania on tuesday in Tilburg (try saying that 5 times in a row) and then there’s Rammstein (with -unknown to me- opening act Exilia) on thursday in Rotterdam. Can’t wait!

Just installed the latest Thunderbird, as I found out mine was getting on a bit and I wanted to try out the new RSS feature anyway. Luckily all went well, I didn’t even lose my profile. RSS feature is looking good, I just prefer having my subscriptions in one place, like bloglines does. Might give it another try at a later time.

I really like the idea of humanising the display of dates and times on a blog, like Dunstan has done. I may borrow one or two of his ideas.
