Sleepy

Bought the Opeth Lamentations DVD at Velvet. Couldn't resist. Kill Bill was great! But now I'm tired. Good night.

Move

Spend the better part of last night packing my stuff in cardboard boxes. The move is set for this saturday. I didn't know I had so much stuff! After I'm settled in, I'm never moving again. It's just to much work. Look forward to tonight though, because I'm going to see Kill Bill: Vol. 1 in Trianon.

Standards

There's an article on A List Apart, called Retooling Slashdot with Web Standards. Though there are some things that could be better, it's a big improvement. Now if only someone could implement it on the real thing.

DVD

The Opeth DVD Lamentations: Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire should be out here on the 28th. Can't wait!

Progress

Hired a sandingmachine to do the wooden floors. Unfortunatly the powersupplies are quite old and a bit limited, so we blew out quite a number of fuses before the job was done. Which means I need to get an electrician in to expand the setup. I can't see all my applicances working together in a friendly way as it currently is. But the floor eventually got sanded and we'll add a few layers of varnish tomorrow.
Oh, and we were unable to get tickets for A Perfect Circle. Apparently it sold out in 15 minutes. Shame.

APC

Look like I might get to see A Perfect Cirlce in 013 year. Yeah!

Maps

Yet another site with old maps of Leiden. I like maps. Might be a nice idea for one of my walls.

Shame on me

Completely forgot my referrers are still being tracked. Must have tons of records by now. Oops. I really should give my site some more attention, still have a redesign waiting in the wings. Maybe after I've moved into my house. For which, by the way, my fridge and washingmachine were delivered yesterdaymorning.

Troy

Just watched the trailer for Troy [IMDb], which is due for release in May. Looks good. Just occured to me that, even though I've read a number of books (Firebrand is one of my favourites) on the trojan war, I've never read the Illiad. About time I do.

Wood

CSS Vault has some nice inspirational material. Oh, and I forgot to mention the roadtrip we undertook on Saturday to find wood for my floor. Tried last week also, but with no luck. Fortunatly we were more successfull this week. And to top things of I even got to see Sinterklaas arrive, when we travelled through Vlaardingen. Can't believe it's already that time again.

Drugs

There's an article on kuro5hin, entitled In Defense of Dutch Drug Policy. Interesting to read, especially since I am Dutch.

reUsit

Curious to see who'll win the reUseit contest.

Nov 11th

It's Sint Maarten today, which marked the onset of winter in medieval Europe. It was the traditional time for slaughtering livestock and hunting, to lay in and preserve stocks of meat for the winter. Now celebrated by children who go door to door to sing songs in return for candy.

LotR

Read a review for the LotR Two Towers extended version DVD. Should be good. I'm still not sure whether I should wait for the unconfirmed ultra-mega-box or go with the 4-disc releases. I'm tempted.

Movie

Watched Equilibrium just now. Nice. And it also reminded me that I should read 1984 again.

Consuming

Ordered the big stuff yesterday evening. My washingmachine and refridgerator will be delivered in 12 days, which gives me -hopefullly- plenty of time to sand and coat the floor. Bought an electric toothbrush and, as if that wasn't enough, my ADSL modem arrived. Pretty much the only left on my list is a couch. But where to find one that I'll like, that's comfortable, relativly cheap AND can fit through the door.

Ahoy

Going to see Iron Maiden play in Ahoy (in Rotterdam) tonight. Can't wait!

Rietveld?

Don't think I've mentioned the lamp that was left behind in my house, might be a Rietveld orginal. I'm not to fond of it, and I'm afraid it'll have to go, but it would be quite cool to have discovered a genuine piece of modernism.

House

LeidenThat's a map of Leiden [wiki] on the left here. The dot is my new house. That's right. My house. Sounds strange, doesn't it?
All went well at the notary yesterday. In and out in 13 minutes. I checked. Don't even want to think about the amount of Euros that cost me, but okay. Choose a sort of browner-than-eggshell for the walls, and a sort of chocolate for the detail bits. Started painting the walls on the first floor last night, after some delay and a trip to the Gamma. Unfortunatly the ceiling was worse of that we thought and chose to replace it.
Which led to another surprise, because the ceiling was stuffed with a sort of reed like twig like material ("tengels"), which all had to be removed. That took most of today. My dad removed the stuff, the rest of us spend the entire time sticking the debris in garbagebags. Dust was everywhere. It hasn't felt this great to take a shower in ages. Continue the painting tomorrow and hopefully create a new ceiling. But I'm pleased. Going to lounge on the couch now.
