New tunes

Just placed an order with Displeased Records for some new music.
Who said people don't buy CDs anymore?

Queensday

After tueday's sunshine and yesterday's rain, it's now a lot colder than I expected.
No work tomorrow, because of koninginnedag (the former Queens birthday). I'm sure there's loads to do in the neighbourhood, but I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing. I do need to buy some more things for the frontdoor.

Wact

I'm reading up on WACT, which is a component model for PHP. The examples look very interesting. Now I only need some time to try out a few things, before I form an opinion.

Sunday

Went to the bi-annual fabric market this afternoon. It was a bit disappointing in variety. Also, it was very crowded due to the warm weather and the appearence of an Idols candidate.
My dad spent most of the afternoon working on my new frontdoor, which had to be placed in position. This turned out the be easier said than done. But it's all in place now and I must say it looks really beautiful. He also brought his new camera for me to have a look at. I'm jealous.

Shares

Just so you know, I'm now listed on BlogShares.

Kill Bill

Poster
Kill Bill 2 premiered at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival on wednesday. If all goes well I'll be going tonight.
There were five on her list. Now it's three. O-Ren Ishii and Vernita Green were the first to fall, now The Bride is out to finish the job by killing Elle Driver, Budd, and last of all, Bill.
Update: just got back. Though the pace and balance of the 2 volumes are quite different, I enjoyed this one as much as I did the first. But I'm curious if the experience wouldn't have been better when released as one movie. But that would be a bit long. Hm. Oh, the preview for Van Helsing looked quite good also. Now I want to sleep. Good night.

Tbird

The new Thunderbird icons are pretty and Beatallica rules.

Grey

Found a nice summary on developing with webstandards. And here are some beautiful grey skins for both FireFox and Thunderbird. Oh, and Web Essentials is looking pretty cool. Shame I'm not in the neighbourhood.

Quotations

Just found Wikiquote, which is a free online compendium of quotations. It also includes an overview of Dutch proverbs (including English translations).

Recommended

The learning curve of web standards.

Migration

Watched Sturm über Europa last night. Originally a German documentary, it aired on Belgian television, about the Völkerwanderung, which is the mass migration of a bunch of tribes. Rather interesting. Must remember to check out the next part.
Going to watch the Singelloop tonight, which is a semi-marathon through the city center. My brother will be participating, so I'll be bringing pep and spreading cheer. Or is it the other way around? Hm.

Bill

The trailer for Kill Bill volume 2 is online.

The Office

Looking forward to checking out The Office, which finally airs on Dutch tv, starting tonight.

Omne vivum ex ovo

traffic sign, only 124 km to go
Which means “All life comes from an egg”. Which I thought was rather appropriate since it's Easter today. Oberhausen was interesting. Didn't find the jacket though. Had a good time nonetheless.

Oberhausen

Good Friday today. Going to the megamall in Oberhausen (Germany) tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the perfect leather jacket -the one I've been looking for, for ages- there.

Drempels?

The new site for drempelsweg.nl, the Dutch advocate for accessibility, went live recently. Hm. Wonder why it doesn't validate.

Festivals

Just checked my Yahoo mail, for the first time in about 2 weeks. No less than 850 messages in my bulkmail folder. Don't you just love spam? About 12 messages in my inbox, and those were newsletters. Found out about the Progpower Festival, which has a rather interesting line-up this year, containing both Amorphis and Katatonia. And Fear Factory will be playing Wâldrock.

Referers

I've recently installed Refer 2.1 for this site, so I can keep an eye on all the comings and goings. And if you want, so can you. Oh, and please ignore the referer spam. It -hopefully- won't have anything to do with me.

Groovy

You can find some wonderful patterns over at squidfingers. Maybe I can use one for an alternate layout for this site. Hm.
I'm also looking forward to trying out Macromedia Flex, which apparently offers a familiar, standards-based programming framework and powerful set of components for creating a rich, responsive presentation tier for enterprise RIAs.

Check

All went well at the dentist. My gums are apparently in better shape than ever.
Meanwhile, I found an article on Nirvana. Can't believe it's ten years ago this week, since Curt died. Atleast Dave is still doing cool stuff. Oh, and Peal Harbour (the movie) airs in half an hour. Have been able to avoid it untill now, but I am quite curious. Shall I?

Dentist

Have my bi-annual dentist checkup this afternoon. You can insert the obligatory Marathon Man quotes here.

Leisure

Not much going on today. Read a number of newspapers from the pile I collected during the week. Read an article -online- on braindrain in the US, which was quite interesting. I'm also looking into phone related software, for caller ID and answering machine function. Found and installed Advanced Call Center. Which looks great, but it's not working with my SpeedTouch modem (yet). Oh, and I'm postponing the dishes untill later this afternoon.

Go Speedracer

dad in car
On the right you can admire a picture of my dad in his brand new shiny Citroën C5. We just took it for a spin to the Karwei, because they had a special offer on frontdoors. Which I wanted to check out. Ordered the ML660, which set me back almost €450. Unbelievable. But it does have some rather pretty stained glass, which will -hopefully- allow for some more light to enter into my kitchen.
